Download our QRG for a short introduction to the IRAC framework. This resource is designed to help new law school students overcome the challenge of organising and structuring responses to problem-based questions. By applying the IRAC method —Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion— students can enhance their legal analysis skills and therefore improve their grades.

Hi

I'm Rowena, a recent Bachelor of Laws graduate from the University of New England, New South Wales, Australia.   I really struggled with legal analysis early in my law degree (actually... I should be honest and say it was a struggle for the whole degree...and I'm still learning).  The one thing that was my ongoing 'ray of sunshine' was the IRAC framework!   My university introduced IRAC early in my studies and continually reinforced it for the whole degree (for which I am forever grateful).   If you haven't encountered IRAC yet, download this guide as a starting point and then go to your law library for additional resources and examples on how to apply IRAC (or similar frameworks) to your legal analysis.  I cannot overstate how important it is to begin your learning journey by applying a framework like IRAC to problem-based questions!
